Doula

The word DOULA comes from the greek tradition and means “woman caregiver”. We now use DOULA to describe a trained and experienced labor companion who provides the woman and her husband or partner EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, PHYSICAL COMFORT, and assistance in obtaining INFORMATION before, during and just after childbirth.

BEFORE BIRTH your DOULA will help you to prepare your body and mind for an healthy birth experience. She will assist you and your partner in preparing for and carrying out your plans for birth.

DURING LABOR your DOULA will be by your side throughout the labor. She will help you with concentration, relaxation, breathing and visualization techniques, suggesting postures, massages and movements to facilitate childbirth. Her role is to facilitate communication between you, your partner, and clinical providers. She will assist you in getting the information you needs to make decisions.

AFTER BIRTH your DOULA will give you the necessary orientations for breastfeeding, baby massage and care.

Pregnant women not only need medical care and the love of their family but also continuous and substantial support. The DOULA provides them with personalized non medical care, according to circumstances and their preferences.
