Craniosacral therapy

CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY is a gentle, hands-on technique that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole body health and performance.

The CranioSacral System consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord, extending from the bones of the skull (which make up the cranium) down to the tailbone area (or sacrum). The production and reabsorption of the cerebrospinal fluid generates expansion/contraction movements of cranial bones creating the CranioSacral Rhythm which is transmitted to the entire body through nerves ending and fascia.

Dr John E. Upledger, an osteopathic physician, worked with a team of anatomists, physiologists, biophysicists and bioengineers in experiments and established the field of CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY. He explained how the craniosacral system is related to a person’s internal balance and self healing capacity, which he called their “inner physician”.

CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY consists in listening to the language of the human body – it’s about feeling, understanding and respecting the body’s internal wisdom. The CRANIO SACRAL THERAPIST is able to detect restrictions and tensions in cranial sutures and the rest of the craniosacral system. With this hands-on technique, the therapist stimulates the patient’s craniosacral rhythm and self-regulatory capacity.

CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY is so gentle, noninvasive and safe that it can benefit patients of all ages and ailments – from newborns to women during and after pregnancy, to people who have undergone surgery or been in an accident, and anyone suffering from physical or emotional conditions.

It can help patients experiencing diseases of the osteo-articular, nervous and hormonal systems, such as migraines, sleep disorder, sinusitis, neck and back pains, joint injuries, and stress-related ailments.
